When is the best time to hike the Amalfi Coast?

Seasons, temperatures and small tricks to choose the right moment for your walk.

The short answer: spring and autumn. The longer answer depends on what you want from the day.

Spring, from April to early June

Mild temperatures, green hillsides and wild flowers make spring the favourite season for many walkers. Trails are pleasant, but early mornings can still be cool and showers are possible.

Summer, for early starts and shade

Coastal paths can get very hot and exposed. If you travel in summer, choose early starts, shaded routes such as valleys and woods, and carry plenty of water and sun protection.

Autumn, from mid September to November

The sea is still warm, light is softer and crowds thin out. Weather can change quickly, so flexible plans help.

Winter, quiet and clear

Some of the clearest views come in winter, but days are short and paths can be wet or slippery. Good footwear and local advice matter more than ever.

A few tips for any season

  • Start early, both for the light and for fewer people
  • Wear proper trail shoes, not sandals
  • Bring water, a snack, sun protection and a light rain layer
  • Check the weather and the state of the trail before you go

Conditions and access can change from year to year. Always check locally before you go.
